This Egyptian Mau portrait is (hopefully) the beginnings of a new series that has been floating around my head for a while. It currently has the title ‘Origins’ and will feature portraits of various domestic pet breeds with interesting…well, origins!
But back to the above beauty, Meet Asar! The first Egyptian Mau I have met and I will NEVER forget him! Photographing cats always has it’s challenges that you have to problem solve on the spot. Cats are not necessarily people pleasers like dogs, so whether you manage to capture their portrait is really not a concern for them. But never have I had to problem solve photographing a cat that repeatedly jumped off the table in order to have pats and cuddles from…me! Needless to say, I didn’t problem solve, he got his pats before being put back on the table for more photos. It’s a hard job eh 😉
This was the original mock up. Lets say it got simplified, but not before I made the columns and carved out a hieroglyph arch way. But it was all too complex in the end and I wanted to keep the focus on this stunning Egyptian Mau.
Below are the final images used to complete the Egyptian Mau portrait
And finally, a speed look through of the layers that join together to complete the image in Photoshop.
A MASSIVE thankyou to Cara from MisrMau Cattery, Asar was the PERFECT model!
